Access to electricity in Africa

In 2019, the IEA reported fresh numbers on access to electricity in the world and unfortunately it doesn’t look great for millions of people on the African continent. Although a lot of work has been done in recent years and the numbers for sub-Saharan Africa rose from 33% in 2010 to 49.7% in 2019 there is still a long way to go. Just try to imagine what your country would look like if only 1% of had access to electricity.

  1. Kindly, how was the access measured? Regular supply or just areas with electricity supply irrespective of the amount?

    1. Hi, Muhammed!

The data was collected by International Energy Agency and I think this might help you: https://www.iea.org/reports/guidebook-for-improved-electricity-access-statistics. Also, I found this on their website: “IEA produces its own estimates for access to electricity based on administrative data collected from Ministries of Energy. This data may differ from the official SDG7.1.1 reported by the World Bank in the Tracking SDG7 Report, which uses survey data.”

      Cheers!
